Our new cat came to us quite unexpectedly. We found her, dumped and left in a carrier by our back door. She is a somewhat pudgy white fur ball. So we gave her temporary residence while deciding what to do with her. Of course, she just had to squeeze herself into our hearts. Derek, Mackenzie, and Sandy took on the burden of giving her a name. Some names that were thrown out were Snowball and Snowflake, but these were too common. Frostbite seemed to be a good choice, until Mackenzie found her sleeping with her back end higher than her front looking just like an igloo, hence her name. We call her Iggy, for short.
Now here’s the funny part, the staff feeds and combs her, but guess who is her favorite person. You got it - Dr. J. She sleeps behind his monitor or sprawled across the table portion of his desk or on his chair. She knew exactly who she needed to butter up to in order to avoid another eviction. Igloo is also on a very successful weight loss program since she came to live at the clinic. She has already lost 15% of her original weight. This is just Igloo's proof that even with a sleepy lifestyle, cats can lose weight too. Also, Igloo can party with the best of them and then sleep while they clean up. Lately, Igloo has taken on the role of secret agent to uncover the secrets of veterinary medicine. She presents her findings in our Library.
Lindy has retired from her busy life of sleeping, stretching, and amusing clients at our hospital. She now sleeps, stretches, and amuses Dr. J at home. We just felt she had served long enough and deserved a good home. Lindy is actually over 10 years old, she just ages very well. Many will remember she used to sleep on the monitor in the reception room. As you can see, old habits never change.
Now while most of our clients only saw Lindy sunning herself in a chair, others saw her hard at work earning her keep. She helped us demonstrate how to apply ear and eye medication and special types of transdermal medication when our patients just had had enough. That was the favorite part of her day: awakened from a sound sleep, tossed on a table, poked and prodded, and then let loose to run off and sleep again (somewhere more out of sight or course). Now these duties have fallen upon our new mascot Igloo.
