Annual Recommendations For Dogs

0 to 1 year of age

Series of vaccinations for new puppies
Heartworm medication (and possibly testing based on your puppy's date of birth)
Fecal exam
- with deworming treatment if necessary
Discussion of diet, socialization, puppy behavior, toys, ...etc, all detailed at your puppy's initial examination
Neutering
- Females around 6 months of age
- Males around 9-10 months of age

1 to 6 years of age

Wellness exam
Rabies vaccination
Distemper, Adenovirus/Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Canine Coronavirus and Canine Parvovirus combination vaccination
- given every other year after age 2
Leptosporosis vaccination
- transmitted in the urine of raccoons, skunks, rats, & mice
Fecal exam (stool check) for intestinal parasites
Heartworm test (a blood test)
-preferably completed in February, March, or April
Heartworm preventative administered May 1st through December 1st
- to be administered all year around if your dog travels with you to warmer climates in the winter
- (this is a mosquito transmitted parasite)
Bordetella (Kennel cough)
- recommended for all dogs as we see this disease frequently in unvaccinated pets
Borrelia (Lyme) vaccination
- if your dog is exposed to ticks, goes into the woods or rural areas (especially in Wisconsin or Michigan), or highway waysides
- begin April 1st.
Flea control
- given middle to late spring to December
Tick control if your dog goes in the woods or has had ticks previously
Dental exam and cleaning if needed

7 years of age

Above care for 1-6 years plus:
Senior chemistry panel (17) and CBC with differential
Dental exam (high priority)
Ultrasound for large breeds for tumors (especially the spleen)
- too may large breed dogs die suddenly from internal bleeding

8+ years of age
