Advantix has become very popular among our clients with dogs, especially because of the mosquito repellant properties which reduce the potential for West Nile Virus infection and heartworm exposure.
These are some of the advantages of this remarkable product:
- This product kills and repels fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.
- It is very safe and can be used on puppies seven weeks of age or older.
- It remains effective if your pet gets wet or goes swimming.
- Advantix is applied monthly and it is still 92-97% effective against fleas and ticks at four weeks after application.
- It is the preferred product for dogs with flea allergies. Mosquitoes and ticks do not bite or attach.
Yes, that's quite a list of virtues. However, we have noticed a little itchiness for 1-2 days after its application in a few dogs. Dogs with sensitive skin should use Advantage (without tick or mosquito repellent). We feel these products are superior to the others out in the marketplace.
We still like Program (oral medication) for families with dogs that have children that hug their pets, thus avoiding medication exposure. We have program injections that offer six months of protection for cats. Program works well if your pet is not in a high density flea areas.
It is estimated that just one surviving flea will ultimately result in 8,000 of the blood thirsty parasites. Since a single female flea lays several hundred eggs at a time, that estimate is credible. However, with Advantix on the job, those estimates may not hold up.
